The 2023 US Open is upon us. Nothing beats the bright lights and the crowds of New York City. It is an experience like none of the other Majors in tennis. Each is unique in its own way, but something is special about the US Open. With the North American hardcourt swing wrapping up, all eyes are on Flushing Meadows, New York for the year’s final major.
Novak Djokovic is back at the US Open and the United States for the first time since he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2021 US Open. That year Djokovic was looking to complete the calendar Grand Slam. He will continue to try to get that feat another year as Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon back in July after Djokovic took the first two majors of the year.
It feels like the final Major of the year on the men’s side of things comes down to Djokovic and Alcaraz. Both men gave fans an instant classic in the Cincinnati Final after the Wimbledon epic. This time Djokovic won, but that is best two out of three sets
Alcaraz is the defending champion, but anything is possible with Djokovic in the field. Then there is Mr. Hardcourt himself, Daniil Medvedev. And there is Jannik Sinner, Casper Ruud, and Alexander Zverev. This is going to be a fun tournament to watch. However, everyone wants an Alcaraz-Djokovic Final.

Alcaraz and Djokovic are the two favorites to win the tournament. Rightfully so. Carlitos won the title last year and is looking to defend the title. After struggling in Toronto he found his form in Cincinnati, but not up to the standard we expect. He will need to fine-tune some things before the defense of his title. Djokovic on the other continues to look good on hard courts. After some time off after Wimbledon, he looks refreshed and ready to win in New York. He will be motivated.
Medvedev always loves playing in New York and continues to have good results at this event. The 2022 US Open Champion loves playing on this surface. Just look at what he did earlier in the year. He won three consecutive titles on hard courts in Rotterdam, Qatar, and Dubai before winning Miami Masters 1000. At Indian Wells, he made the semis. Though the summer hard court swing was decent for Medvedev at the Majors, this guy turns it up.
Outside of the top three, you look around, and you see a guy like Jannik Sinner. Sinner won in Toronto, winning the National Bank Open, an ATP Masters 1000 event. He made finals earlier in the year in Rotterdam and Miami losing to Medvedev. Sinner had a nice win over Alcaraz to get to the final in Miami and is ready to win a major. Good value.
While Zverev is high at +3000, he is a finalist at the US Open and is looking healthy and strong. Zverev is back to finally playing at the level people expect after the gruesome injury. Don’t forget about the three-time major finalist Casper Ruud at +3500. It feels like Ruud is ready to break through. However, his summer results have not been great.
The field is wide open. There are always upsets in the first week of the tournament. Will an American male finally win a major? The last one to do so was Andy Roddick in 2003 at this event. Taylor Fritz (+3500) has the game to do so. What about Frances Tiafoe (+5000), who made a run to the semifinals last year? Other Americans are making a name for themselves too. But with so many good players that can make deep runs.
All it takes is seven wins to be crowned champion at the 2023 US Open.
