The 2023 US Open has reached the final weekend with the women’s and men’s semifinals. On Thursday evening, Coco Gauff will take on Karolina Muchova while Madison Keys will take on Aryna Sabalenka. Then on Friday, Novak Djokovic takes on the young American Ben Shelton. That match will be followed by Carlos Alcaraz taking on Daniil Medvedev.
Entering the tournament, Djokovic was the odds-on favourite at +130 to win the tournament. But right behind him was Carlos Alcaraz (+150), followed by Daniil Medvedev at +750. Everyone is hoping for a Djokovic-Alcaraz Final on Sunday before the tournament begins. Considering what those two did at Wimbledon and in the final of Cincinnati.
Only one of the matches has the potential to go five sets. The favourites entering the semifinals are Djokovic and Alcaraz. Look Shelton has nothing to lose and will give it his all against Djokovic. While Medvedev is a former major champion at this event. We have seen Medvedev play spoiler in the past.
The men’s semifinals are shaping up to be really good on Friday. Let’s dive into the 2023 US Open Semifinal Odds.

2023 US Open Semifinal Odds
Novak Djokovic (-108) vs Ben Shleton (+700)
The odds clearly favourite the 23-time Grand Slam champion. And why not? Look he is one of the best players of all time. Knows how to win big matches, especially at this point in the tournament. However, he is only 3-6 in the finals of the US Open. He has a better winning percentage at the other tournaments.
The pressure is on him to win and get to the final again. He understands the young players are going after him and they want his scalp as he said at Wimbledon. Djokovic has looked different in this tournament. Though he had to rally in the third round from two sets down, Novak is playing with an edge.
However, Shelton is playing with house money. He has a big game and a big serve that could give Djokovic problems. However, if Shelton thinks he is breaking Djokovic as he did against Frances Tiafoe in that wacky third quarterfinal match on Tuesday night, he has another thing coming.
Shelton will need to hold serve and find a way to break or win a tiebreak to win this match. Djokovic knows how to adjust. And he will as the greats always do. Maybe Shelton gets a set, but expect straight sets here.
Carlos Alcaraz (+125) vs Daniil Medvedev (+373)
The second gentlemen’s semifinal features two men who have won the US Open in the past. Alcaraz is looking to become the first man since Roger Federer (2004-2008) to defend the title in New York. Medvedev won the title in 2021. This has the chance to go five sets, but the way Alcaraz is playing too it might not as their Wimbledon match didn’t.
Alcaraz holds a 2-1 edge over Medvedev after his win in the Wimbledon semifinals. Carlitos is flying out there. His serve, forehand, and backhand are so on point. Alcaraz is not afraid to come to the net either. And with the way Medvedev stands so far back, expect a lot of drop shots and serve and volley plays.
Look Medvedev can play a spoiler as he did in 2021 stopping Djokovic from completing the calendar Grand Slam, but the way he has been struggling in the conditions, that will play a factor. Though it bothers him, Medvedev does not show it. He defeated fellow countryman Andrey Rublev in straights. Rublev is now 0-9 in major quarterfinals.
Both players can hit the ball with such force. However, Alcaraz is playing on another level right now. He is cruising through the tournament. Not like last year where it was five set epics through the final. His body is fresh.
Expect Djokovic-Alcaraz on Sunday for the title.
That does it for your 2023 US Open Men’s Semifinals betting odds preview.
